Ive been using Hamachi to play on a server with my friends, but I am still confused on how it exactly works. How does it connect all our computers? If someone could explain it would help a lot. Thanks!
A virtual private network (VPN) extends a private network across a public network, and enables users to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if their computing devices were directly connected to the private network. Applications running across the VPN may therefore benefit from the functionality, security, and management of the private network.
Think of it like this, the 1 user hosting on Hamachi a server is creating a new digital internet router that other Hamachi users connect to…
Then, The hoster can open a minecraft server(defaulting to port 25565) and hamachi will give the other computers the ability to connect to “[Host Hamachi-IP]:25565” where the hamachi ip is supplied by the program if you hit rclick on the server in hamachi and get ipv4 ip(or ipv6 but I’m pretty sure its 4)…
Why is it useful? Some routers require port forwarding to allow flow over ports you specify, In minecraft’s default case its 25565…
That can be complicated to do for younger people or even not a possibility in some ISPs…
Port forwarding allows the clients to connect to the server computer’s public ip…
If I leave Hamachi on 24/7, am I running any risk? While Hamachi is running are any other functions of my computer hindered?
Ive had internet performance drops but really really not noticable…
As long as no hacker connects, there should not be any issue, tell only your friends privatly the password for your hamachi server etc…
