I am wondering if anyone with a Norton 360 on your MacBook. I used to have it in my Windows PC, but don’t know if necessary for a MacBook.
Apple has its own inbuilt antivirus. There is no need of another antivirus.
Came from Windows 2months ago and well versed in Anti-Virus programs as a computer tech. And McAffee and Norton 360 are not the best and very bloated. And waste of monies and computer resources.
And never needed as Windows Defender made quite strides in becoming a great all you need virus protection and just relied on that last 5-8yrs. With zero infections. Very capable top tier and free.
And even these programs less needed on MacOS systems. So please don’t use them don’t give them monies and computer space on your system.
No and not necessary imo
Those apps are trash on Windows and they are trash on Mac. They give you a false sense of security, consume resources on your device and cost you money you don’t need to spend.
Even most Windows users don’t bother with 3rd party AV on personal devices. The only advantage to 3rd party products is really in the corporate space where they can be centrally and remotely managed / scanned / isolated if compromised etc etc
Using Macs for more than 15 years and never used (or needed) an antivirus software.
HELL NO! #1 I hate Norton with a passion (clearly!). #2 When I got my first MacBook I put anti virus on it and someone at the Apple Store said that it was a bad idea because it was working the machine too hard or pulling too much power or something like that. #3 Really you don’t need it.
When I use the Windows PC without Norton 360 before, it is easily infected malware and other virus. That’s why I always use the Norton 360 for the Windows PC.
You shouldn’t use that predatory crap antivirus software on any device. Windows or Mac. They are bad and a major ripoff
bloatware that only slow down your system. the occasional MalwareBytes scan helps but never monitors
Depending on your definition Norton and McAfee are essentially malware. Never put that crap on any computer. PC, Mac or otherwise. Just use whatever is built into your OS and common sense. Be skeptical of every email you didn’t request and every website. Keep your installed software few and from trusted vendors. Try to stay inside vetted software distribution systems like app stores.
Use your brain, and you should be fine
As macOS users have gained a larger user base in recent years, it has become more interesting for virus makers. The built-in antivirus provides some protection, but it is limited. I have been using Bitdefender for several years now and am quite happy with it. The best protection is to only download software from trustworthy sources.
Fear mongering parasites. Don’t give them your money or your cycles.
Friends don’t let friends install Norton / McAfee. ‘Nuff said.
that is not true. mac is a Unix system. Its hard to get priveledges makes automation hard for virus. It’s the isolation file system for the virus to spread even harder. it’s not because of an inbuilt antivirus.
Hypothetically speaking, what if, in this economy, shady business happens occasionally? Does that change things?
Yes. I always use Norton 360 in Windows PC because I feel the Windows Virus protection is not strong enough. The best thing is the Norton 360 won’t slow down the computer, but McAfee will.
I never used Norton in my iPhone and iPad, that’s why I am thinking if I should install on the MacBook, since one account can protect 5 devices for just $19.99
Yes, I never install on my iPad and iPhone, so won’t install on the MacBook Pro, too.
