I was searching for this information before opening my business to make sure if I need it or not. If you think that such service is essential, do you know any good VPNs which would have some special offers for businesses or smth like that?
Just so you do not misunderstand… Businesses use their own VPN servers in order to place their remote employees into LAN network of their offices. Do not even think of using public VPN services for all your employees as that would route all your data through a third party. You absolutely do not want to put your traffic into hands of third party.
When you say “for business” do you mean a VPN for all of your business traffic? Or for accessing your business resources remotely?
Several mentions of companies setting up their own VPN for secure remote employee access. What do companies use in order to secure their internal network across multiple corporate locations?
If you are asking this question, you probably do not ‘need’ a VPN. If you do actually need a VPN, and are asking this question on reddit, you’re going to have way more flaws in your security than a VPN is going to protect.
Essentially, a VPN encrypts traffic between point A and point B. A VPN encrypts traffic between the sending computer (or router) and the vpn server. It serves to route your traffic from a different IP, and not allowing your ISP to log or search through your traffic.
Once your traffic exits the VPN, it goes over the regular internet.
VPN’s are highly suggested if using wifi hotspots. If you are connecting to servers or computers at your business, VPN servers at the business are highly suggested, but are part of overall security deployment, and are a small component of the security model.
If you don’t know if you need a VPN, and are handling other peoples information, you need to consult with an IT consultant in your area.
IMHO a VPN is essential for businesses, especially if you will be storing personal information of your clients. What you need depends on the size of your company: if it’s a big enterprise then you might look into setting up your own VPN. If it’s a small business and you just need online protection, if your workers connect to public Wi-Fi, then commercial VPN is enough. Check r/vpncoupons to find sweet deals.
Absolutely. If I’m not in my office I use a VPN. It’s a necessity for security.
if you handle NDA data and sites i would say its essential. most companies host their own vpn on their servers using openVPN.
They use IPsec usually.
