Do I need a VPN for my entire home Internet traffic?

I apologize in advance if this question has already been asked. I have CenturyLink fiber and an ActionTec C3000A router. I use a VPN occasionally on my desktop but my question is: Is it a good idea for security to use some sort of VPN for all internet traffic for my home? Does a VPN provide security that I should have? I’m not torrenting. I don’t need to access geo restricted websites. I’m not concerned about my ISP knowing which websites I’m visiting. My concern is only about security.

UPDATE: Thank you all for your great advice. I’m going to forget about the VPN and focus on the things zebostoneleigh mentioned.

Meh. Much more important things to focus on.

Like passwords, 2FA, and avoiding suspicious links. Oh, and backups (a proper backup).

If you don’t trust your own ISP sure… but the performance will not be the best.

Better than a VPN, use encrypted DNS.

I’m curious how to enable vpn for the entire home network. Without individual pc connecting to vpn?
Thanks for your reply!

Run a pi-hole instance x2 better results

I’m sorry that your post has been filled with such uneducated nonsense.

I can’t necessarily discuss what I do but I have probably used the umbrella term of a VPN for a few decades.

There are such great differences between VP n’s that you would think I am talking about different material objects entirely.

First just know so that nobody deceives you into buying something Based on the marketing of fear that VPn’s do not provide security.

In a single word a VPN is a tunnel.

If you were to provide The use of a VPN for all the computers in your household the security that you would achieve initially would be that no machine would be able to communicate with another, therefore security by isolation.

what “security” do you think a VPN provides?

For better home security I would start with checking the settings on your router. There are various articles and videos on securing your router.

Oh, and backups (a proper backup).

How do you do a proper backup?

Router to VPN

Speed will drop to below 50mbps (not recommended)

Run a pi-hole better overall!!!

Instead of asking them what they obviously don’t know, why not just say it doesn’t provide any security other than IP masking.

Thank you! I didn’t realize that it’s possible to buy a router with built-in VPN.

3-2-1 strategy; (at least) 3 copies of your data on 2 locations and 1 in the cloud (encrypt it first!)

No it won’t, only if your vpn service is slow

Pi hole is not a replacement or alternative to vpn, confused why that is being suggested

because part of learning involves critical thinking of why you feel you need something, and maybe there is something else that would solve that problem better than a VPN would…

Thanks or the information

But sometimes it doesn’t have to be a learning situation. Depends on the audience. I’m not sure the more advanced concepts are relevant here.
