Dash lane is great, a 500% increase in cost is not

Around this time last year, I decided that I wanted to get a password manager, so I did the research and made a list of potential options, and then weighed them against each other using criteria relevant to me, one of which was affordability.

Dashlane came out on top, and by a long way too, so I signed up, payed for the subscription and I haven’t had a single complaint since, I have never had an issue, Dashlane has always just worked and it’s convenient to use, I have been 100% happy with my decision for the last 12 months, until a couple days ago when I got a notification that my subscription needed to be renewed and the price had increased…

I am perfectly fine with a price increase. 20%, 50%, that’s acceptable, given my experience with Dashlane and how affordable it was to start with, I could even justify a 100% increase, no problem. But when I opened the notification and read that my subscription would be going from 239.99/year to 1299.99/year (local currency)…
A 540% increase is way past the line of justifiable, it’s past the line of being a rip off…

I can’t even scale back my subscription, I don’t use the VPN, darkweb monitoring is cool but I can do without it, I don’t need Dashlane on an unlimited number of devices, I need it on 2, but no, it’s either pay the exorbitant price increase and get a bunch of stuff I don’t use so I can use the genuinely good core functions of Dashlane, or don’t use Dashlane at all…

Dashlane is amazing, and I get it, it’s a company that needs to turn a profit, I have no issues with that, but it’s not 500%-increase-in-cost amazing, in my opinion, you guys need to have a look at your pricing and your plans and do some balancing.

I have received my first price increase from $39.99 to $60. As a result, I am canceling my subscription and switching to another password manager.

I tried to post a similar message a few months ago several times and was removed each time…

Wow, mine just renewed at 59.99.

It sounds like you got the deal for your first year and you’re now paying the normal subscription price. I don’t really have an issue with this. I’ve been using DL for like 5 years at this point and I personally love it.

Bitwarden is free and it’s open source. Not quite as pretty of a UI but it’s great. $10 a year if you need some other features like emergency access to others.

These “ is too expensive” posts are tedious. What do you think whining about it here is going to accomplish? There are plenty of very good free alternatives if you don’t want to pay.

Which currency is this? I’m guessing you went from a promotional price to the normal price. Dashlane normal price is very fair, at least it is in the U.S.

Go to website and renew. Originally paid RM 79.90 (Malaysia) . GooglePay subscription renewal quoted RM 499+ but when I went online it was quoting US$ 59.99 which when converted is only RM 270.

1299.99/year (local currency)…

How much is that ? You should tell how much Dashlane is asking now, instead of just mentioning a percentage of increase. Preferrably use dollars or euros so that most readers can understand.

It’s quite possible you got a near-free promotion to begin with. This is a common marketing tactic.

Is your present plan that much more expensive than similar offerings by other companies ? This is what matters.

If you cannot afford the required price, there are several very good free password managers. Most of the Kee Pass family is free, Bitwarden has a good free version.

Let me check what I have paid for my family pack.

Just out of curiosity, what were the features that were so much better that you chose them? I ask because our testing didn’t reveal the same ranking.

Sorry they must be living in LaLa Land, or the company is desperate to remain financially viable.

Isn’t five times a relatively small price still relatively small? I think $59.99 plus tax is a fair price for Dashlane. If it had been $13, I would have found that surprisingly underpriced.

I don’t believe you got a 540% price increase. That’s impossible

Yep same, saw how much it will renew at and I’m leaving. The jump is just way too high

You pay for the cost of the VPN along with the password manager.

What nobody is talking about is that when premium runs out the app locks your passwords so you can’t autofill or copy them manually until you either pay or delete excess passwords. You can’t even reveal the password.

They deleted my post about it being illegal.

In some countries the price hike is 2000%

Both bitwarden & dashlane are not supported in my device. I switched to excel(ofcourse, password protected). Not having to pay alone makes me love the experience.

Also google password manager is good but you have to use chrome browser on desktop. It does the job.
