I’m tired of seeing all these posts about This person is using VPN to make us lag, VPN makes it easier to win stars since easier opponents. I’ve seen people explain that it has to do with a DNS server and has nothing to do with a VPN. The least a techy could do is help these nobs understand how stupid they sound when they bring up a person using VPN as a source as to why they’re lagging or how they’re able to do certain things. It could also be delved into that any possibile factor that could influence their ping in anyway; what is commonly referred to a “lagswitch” in 1st person shooters at least.
VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. The original use for VPNs is in workplace environments so people can have their data encrypted and more protected from being intercepted or tampered with when it gets sent out onto the web.
Using a VPN causes your data to be sent to the VPN server first, and then to a ML server. This takes more time than a connection between just your phone and the ML server, and thus causes the VPN user to lag.
Everyone else in the game should not be affected, because they are not using VPNs and their data is not getting sent to an additional location.
VPNs can cause the server to think you are connecting from somewhere that you aren’t, so the point “VPNs for easier opponents” does have merit. I am an NA player, there aren’t many people in Mythic on my server. It is more likely that a Mythic player on my server will be matched up with Epics/Legends than if they were to play on a server from the SEA.
Lagswitching is something completely different and probably doesn’t apply to this game.
if it’s only 1 person that’s lagging in the team, then it’s the person’s fault for having trash phone or connection, but what if it’s suddenly everyone in your team gets 120ms?
BTW which country do you guys use in VPN?
Most of the games I played in the past few days are with players from a country faraway. Does that mean they’re using VPN? But the problem is every time this happens my ping is always 120ms constant. I wonder if there’s something wrong with moonton’s server.
It’s a flawed explanation because your game has to remain in sync with the VPN user so there will be additional delay in the teammates receiving the packets of data. It affects everyone, even the players on the opposing team.
I own a web hosting business and know all about how DNS works and VPN.
And a VPN does not protect your data from being tampered with, it actually makes it less secure and easier to intercept. Free VPN services are not sending your data thru secured channels. A paid VPN provider with their own servers would be.
Hackers and thieves will set up their own servers to steal and eavesdrop your communications to get credit cards, keys and login credentials.
Same problem here with the 120ms constant ping, when player’s are of different countries than mine.
The game only has to sync everyone for the startup where everyone loads in. Everyone will be sending and receiving data from the server, only the VPN user will have a slower connection. The only constant thing between all the players in the match is the server they are connecting to.
I developed games before. That is truly false. Your packets are delayed to the server and therefore delayed to the others receiving them.
You ever play a match and suddenly the game freezes for like 10-15 seconds and then suddenly fasts forward. That VPN user caused it because his lag spiked and your game froze. The server still detects an active tcp ip packet being delivered from the player because he went from a 1Mbps thruput and started sending kilobytes per second.
Why do people hate playing games with other people in other countries. Because it lags like a MFer. Those complaining aren’t using a VPN. Why would it lag, because of hops, what does a VPN do, create more hops.
Let’s test it out, I’ll add you as a friend and we’ll do a 1vs1 and after the game loads Ill throttle the connection to my phone to 10kbs per second and we’ll see if you don’t lag. As long as I have a small amount of packets being delivered the game won’t detect an an afk, them packets are going to build up until your game freezes because the data is backed up.
I’ll release the throttle and your game will explode into action again because you suddently received the backup data and are now in sync with the other client.
