Can I be fired for emailing my representatives?

Get a burner account like the Republican Russian fake accounts do, and use a VPN.

ANYthing you do can put it at stake.

I work for the gov now and would not be caught dead at a protest event.

I was just listening to a radio show last night where they had an Employment lawyer as a guest.

She was saying that she’s been getting a lot of people contacting her of late about them being disciplined for their political “speech,” even away from work, and that she has to disappoint many of them.

Her takeaway is that if your behaviour “damages the brand” of your employer, they’re well within their rights to punish, including termination.

That’s the legal test (for most, there might be more stringent regulations for Conflict-of-Interest, etc.), if the employer can show that the employee’s act (even away from the workplace, on their own time, with their own resources) cost the business, then that employee is SooL.

Don’t use the work email address or use company equipment or their WiFi… Just your personal cell phone and data plan

Also, be careful of social media. If you post pictures of yourself in certain situations or opinions and the company or your boss sees it, they could take action.

Also, don’t use the same email as the one on your resume.

Wearing the logo of a competitor at such functions would be permissible.

Like that lady from the park in NY who called the cops on the black dude bird watching. She is super famous now🤣

Trump supporters, no. Calling for the death of anyone, yes.

I’m not sure where exactly to draw the line, but overall, I’d say that I’m pretty lenient in what I’d allow people to say without consequence. I’d probably say it should stop at hate-speech, but the government can spin phrases to assume that they’re meaning is hate-speech. I’d likely find some moral line rather than a legal line tbh.

You need to tell them you’re running for office and they give you the right to attend political rallies. Sounds illegal to me

“Violent from antifa” followed by “keep it neutral”

Sure thing mate lol

“Violent from Antifa”? Do you know what Antifa is?

This is the best advice, and the easiest way to ruin your professional reputation. Especially if you post to Facebook make sure you remove your employer from “works at”, and set your profile to friends only. Extrapolate that to other social media. Tldr is do not leave any ambiguity that your politics are personal, not representing your employer.

I understand the running for office part, it’s like getting a second job. Many employers who offer full time work want to sign off on second jobs so they can make sure it doesn’t impair your obligation to them. Also, there are some companies that could have the governmental contracts threatened if certain elected or appointed officials worked for the company. For example, they have a contract with the City to supply something, but if one of their employees is elected to City Council, they can no longer do business with the City because it’s a conflict of interest.

I guess that makes sense but the rest is absolutely absurd.

So, if you’re not anti-fascist, that must mean you’re pro?

I mean, we’re living in a time where we have to push back against fascism, hard. They push against us, and rely on people being pacifists. There will always be some that give others a bad name. You’re either for, or against fascism.

Might want to check multiple sources for information sport.

If by “political opponents” you mean fascists, yes. Yes fascists should be silenced.

Tolerance isn’t a one way promise: it’s a peace treaty, and groups like nazis and fascists necessarily violate it by promoting genocide and ethnostates.

So, by this metric they’re ALL far left and violent? Would you say as well that all of the protesters that were against the death of George Floyd were the same that looted? Or was it opportunists who saw a chance to steal just because?

Should we be careful? Absolutely.
