I’m in the EU (Netherlands) and I’ve been using ExpressVPN to access things like American and British Netflix and it has always worked for me. Never has it been detected by Netflix after using it for about a year. I do want to give you a bit of a heads up though about the EU portability law, which means that everywhere within the EU, you’ll always get your own (in this case German) Netflix library. So no matter what you do, whether you’re using a VPN or even travelling, you won’t be able to access the Netflix libraries of other countries within the EU like France, Italy etc. You should be able to access the libraries of other countries like Singapore, the US and even the UK since they left the EU. Also keep in mind that non-English speaking countries will probably not have English subtitles available, which isn’t a problem when you’re watching an English movie, but it does mean you probably can’t watch cool foreign films on, let’s say, Korean or Japanese Netflix and if you must have German subtitles, you probably won’t get much out of a VPN for Netflix. I love Mullvad and Proton but while Mullvad is not the best for streaming, I will recommend Proton Plus. Had no problem with this VPN.

I live in Germany and have been using Surfshark for the almost a year now.
I’ve had next to no problems at all (sometimes I have to log in when it should remember my password, but that’s rare). The UI is super simple and there’s a wide selection of servers to choose from.
I would suggest it. Though I’m not sure what the pricing looks like in comparison to other VPNs, so I can’t speak on that.

On-topic. NordVPN is crappy to say the least. It is all about marketing and less about quality service.
There are at least a handful of other VPNs to consider, before nordvpn. 
Netflix seems to have blocked some WeVPN servers, I hope they change them soon.
