You may have missed the articles about the ownership of many vpns being owned by the Chinese. And I recall another set being owned by a rather shady Israeli Co. One of the more deplorable aspects of the VPN industry is the lack of transparency in ownership. I personally believe it is leading to a lot of abuse.
Mullvad is of course a well known Swedish VPN. They should be reviewed and I think it unfortunate that they are not. I believe its a very reasonable question to ask RP why this well know provider which enjoys a good reputation in the community has not been reviewed. If the sole reason is a lack of affiliate links that is inexcusable.
They have some commentary to AirVPN. And an affiliate link I noticed.
In the past I suggested to people that RP was a good resource for knowledge and I tended to focus on the info, and when I was starting out I often found the many comments to reviews to be equally informative.
The affiliate commission is something relatively new (at least to me). It seems the site went this route to help offset costs and avoid advertising on the site. I can see how this might concern some although to me affiliate links are not bothersome in themselves if openly declared.
If I understand your comments correctly you are implying there is a close correlation between whom they review, the ratings, and the affiliate link. If so this is regrettable. I think I will ask them.
I cannot really comment on costs. I use what is likely the most expensive VPN on the list but even their cost to me seems reasonable, IMHO not expensive for what I obtain when we use it (usually for testing). I guess what value does one place on privacy? Does one believe that the lowest price is going to equate to the best quality? In my experience this is rarely the case although its not impossible. But I have to think low cost providers are spoofing IP locations, binding ips on just a few servers rather then actually placing hardware in each geographic location. Co-locates are very, very expensive especially with unmetered bandwidth. Every time I see an ad for a provider touting low prices with a super large network the first thing that comes to mind is the cost of all the colocates.
