My ISP has bad routing to the servers on which I play. They are in Netherlands, so I wanted to try to use a Netherlands server on nord, as some people had the same issue and fixed it with a VPN.
I tried several Netherlands servers and on most of them the connection is better but the problem is that the connection isn’t stable at all, from having some big lag spikes (300ms to 3000ms) to no connection at all and getting disconnected from the game.
Is there a specific option I should use, like dedicated IP, normal vpn etc and openvpn or nordlynx.
(I should add that I have 1gb/s fiber and it is very stable without vpn. I still get about 200mb/s up and down and 18ms on speedtest with most netherlands servers I tried)
I believe the vpn pretty much always increases latency (aka ping), because you have to send it to their server, amd they send it to the game’s server. I play titanfall 2 with a vpn and ir doesnt help nor impact my MP games
Wi-fi or wired. You will get more packet loss on WiFi, which with the extra steps needed for VPN will magnify the perceived stability impact. If on WiFi and any way for you to try wired, give that a go. I game wired from NL on Nord sometimes without too much issue, including FPS.
What are you playing? Might even be I play same thing and could do a test. On ziggo.
If you have gigabit speeds then use NordLynx. It really depends how far you are from the servers. However, from what I’ve tested with the servers near me, I don’t get many spikes with OpenVPN (UDP). I don’t have gigabit speeds so I don’t need to use Nordlynx all the time. Try them both and experiment a bit on how things work out.
It’s a kind of routing software, I used it for playing COD was ping was unstable due to my ISP network setting so I used zerotier and it actually works and made my ping stable. give it a try
I would try a server on a bigger country, or closer to your game’s server. For ex: If you play EFT and the closest server is in London, I would connect to the london NordVPN server. Maybe that helps, but I’ve never had the problem you described
Edit: just re-read and it seems like your game servers are already in the Netherlands. I had disconnection problems regarding Nord and my OneDrive - I fixed it by setting the security protocol to TCP . Maybe give that a shot
