Any method to get gaming VPN's working under Linux?

I’m in China and cannot connect to most international game servers without one of these so-called gaming VPN’s. I can use my regular VPN but it doesn’t deal with games so well (it’s playable, barely)

Without VPN it’s a crapshoot on whether it’ll connect at all and if it does it’s almost unplayable. This is due to the Chinese great firewall inspecting traffic and slowing my connection down but not consistently so it’s lost packets and variable ping all the time.

So under Windows I use Leigod or UU… but all of these only support Windows/Mac and will not work under WINE.

Hey OP PM me. I’m a Network Engineer in America and I’d be more than happy to try and help you bypass the Great Firewall and stick it to Pooh Bear.

I’ll admit I know nothing about TGFoC but see if the gaming vpn supports openvpn or wireguard. Wireguard is built into the kernal now, so that is the best/fastest option. Or would something like a private vps server with wireguard be an option?

Edit: Never mind, I missed the part that you’re in China. For that you probably need more advanced VPN methods such as WireGuard or Shadowsocks.

Not sure but I don’t think there is a single commercial VPN doesn’t support OpenVPN which is quite straightforward to use on Linux with GUI. In fact, I searched “gaming vpn” on Google, the first article’s top VPN is Surfshark that I am using on Mint with GUI. (Though I am unsure whether Surfshark is the low latency solution that you’re looking for gaming. I am using it to unlock regions for video services. Take its OpenVPN method as a guide.)

这个方法支持大部分加速器,包括UU迅游之类的

Hello. I’m in the same situation as OP, could you help me too?

but see if the gaming vpn supports openvpn or wireguard.

They do make a connection and I think it’s using something like Wireguard but I can’t quite figure out what they’re doing or how to get any details etc - what I know is they connect through Tencent Cloud and generally spit you out in the closest location (if you’re connecting to an SG server, it’ll kick you out in SG) but with all the censorship of TGFoC still in place which is fine for gaming.

Or would something like a private vps server with wireguard be an option?

Unfortunately I used to have this with something called “Shadowsocks”, it was blocked… and any subsequent setups get blocked or slowed to the point of unusability (100mbps to start with… then drops to 0.5 and never goes up) - Wireguard is always blocked as it’s easy to work out when someone’s connecting with it.

My VPN provider uses some sort of Wireguard-like connection but they only allow you to connect through their app and won’t divulge how to connect regularly…

OpenVPN and Wireguard are almost unusable in China, GFW can easily detect their protocols and then quickly block them

Sure! Feel free to PM me.

Is that for common VPN providers or all VPNs? I’d be happy to spin up a virtual appliance for this person.

There are no legal VPN providers for individuals in China, and only some companies and their employees are allowed to use VPN services that are certified and monitored by the government. All other VPN services are illegal and can be blocked by GFW at any time.
