This is my first month using a VPN due to a recent scare. Problem is, Google won’t let you use the search bar while your VPN is active. I search things frequently, and having my VPN turned off or paused every time I want to search for something kinda defeats the purpose.
Use DuckDuckGo, with or without a VPN.
Switch in your network settings your DNS from PIA DNS to Built-in Resolver. It worked for me 
I have now put my default search as Bing. Apart from chatgpt goodness, it still sucks mostly, but gets done my kinda things: like getting the web address correctly.

this is actually relatively recent too, it’s super frustrating. I was in Sweden a couple months ago using PIA on my phone to get search results based on my home country and I needed to do captchas sometimes, but it would do the search once I passed the captcha.
Now I’m back and trying the exact same thing, I do the captcha and it still won’t let me search, it’s really annoying.
Honestly, I know it’s likely got little to do with PIA, but not being able to use google searches while connected to my VPN abroad is probably just going to push me to another VPN that Google isn’t cracking down this hard on 
tried this, but I’m still getting redirected to the “sorry” page after clearing the captcha
