Ad-Blocker Recommendations

As the title suggests, I looking to purchase a lifetime subscription for an ad- blocker «hopefully one that includes a VPN». The main ones that I am leaning towards of are: 1Blocker and AdGuard. I’m leaning more towards 1Blocker, but Idk if that is the better one out of the two; I also see that AdGuard has a VPN, and I am unsure whether or not 1Blocker has one.

Sadly, I haven’t really found a comprehensive breakdown, putting different ad-blockers head-to-head, with users debating why they think xyz ad-blocker is the GOAT «over every other option». Hopefully, this can serve as a place that future people can come to find this, and aid them researching which ad-blocker to go with.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am going to be using the ad-blocker on my iPad Pro & iPhone, and Safari is my main browser «Idk if that helps at all though».

THANKS SO FUCKING MUCH IN ADVANCE

VPNs that also have ad-blocking DNS that I would recommend: IVPN, Mullvad, ProtonVPN, Windscribe, Adguard.

Another vote for AdGuard. Look on the website StackSocial for lifetime deals - I think the last one they had was an individual lifetime license for about $11 bucks.

I have Adguard Pro but as of recent it’s been very inconsistent. Webpages sometimes won’t load unless I turn off the VPN or refresh the filters. I am currently using NextDNS so far so good.

NextDNS works great for me

1Blocker does do a local VPN for ad blocking, and it works on almost every app and website. I used it for years before switching to an actual VPN a couple of months ago.

If you want a real VPN that also does ad blocking, you probably won’t be able to find a lifetime purchase one. I love ProtonVPN. They are from Switzerland, they have a no-logs policy, and the VPN is very fast. I think I paid $60 for a year about 2 months ago. It’s totally worth the money. Proton is the only one I personally trust. They also are in the process of turning themselves into a non-profit.

Proton also has a free version that doesn’t come with ad blocking.

I don’t use VPNs but I’ve never been satisfied with any of the browser adblockers for Safari available for iOS. Sooner or later websites find a way to skirt around them. I’ve tried almost all the major ones. The only solution to block ads that I found was to ditch Safari altogether and use opera. It has an inbuilt adblocker that’s really good.

I use Pi-hole on a Raspberry Pi which is installed at home.

When at home on WiFi then all the DNS queries on my iPhone, iPad, (and TV) are routed through that so no adverts.

When out and using a mobile service, then as I have the Pi running Wireguard on PiVPN then I have a connect on demand split VPN that routes the DNS queries back through that, so no adverts.

When connected to other WiFi when out and about, then it runs a full VPN back to home, so again no adverts.

£20 all in one off cost for the Pi, SD card, and charger to run it, and an hour or so getting it set up.

Think about: Does a VPN gives you really more privacy and better AdProtection? I guess “NO”.

I am a 1Blocker Guy since many years and I love it. I have LifeTime Subscription since they where offered and will never ever use any different adblocker.

So if you leaning towards to 1Blocker, Do it!!!.

Cant beat Wipr for a one time fee. Obviously only blocks ads in safari but it does a great job.

AdGuard is the answer here. Get the lifetime sub on sale and you are set.

Give Naka AdBlocker VPN a try

AdGuard all the way mate

This has been the best ad-blocker for me, works really well in Safari

I also use Wipr but it doesn’t support VPN so only works in Safari. Still, I think it’s the best on iOS.

I do adblocker to, and honestly … VPN … doesn’t give you any more privacy or protection. So VPN just for blocking Ads is useless.

I don’t think it is really necessary to have this VPN for better Ad Protection. You only need to block all Ad sources and tracker sources and you’re done.

I agree with you about the 1Blocker, but is it really necessary to have a adblocking VPN??? I don’t think so. VPN Providers always like to tell us we need more and more protection but thats not true. I think 1Blocker is already enough.
